Dolby Theatre din Los Angeles a fost gazda  celei de-a 96-a ediție a Premiilor Oscar. ”Oppenheimer”, regizat de Christopher Nolan, a câștigat șapte premii, inclusiv distincția pentru cel mai bun film.

Ironiile politice nu au lipsit la ceremonie. Prezentatorul premiilor, Jimmy Kimmel, l-a ironizat pe fostul președinte Donald Trump în timpul show-ului de duminică, după ce acesta l-a insultat pe actor pe rețelele de socializare. „Mi s-a spus că avem cam un minut în plus și mă gândeam să împărtășesc ceva cu voi. Tocmai am primit o recenzie”, a spus Kimmel, înainte de a scoate telefonul și a citi cu voce tare postarea lui Trump pe rețeaua sa, Truth Social.

Marele pierzător al serii poate fi considerat filmul Barbie. Pelicula produsă de Margot Robbie a câștigat doar un premiu, pentru Cel mai bun cântec, interpretat de Billie Eilish.

Emma Stone a suferit un accident vestimentar în timp ce primea premiul pentru „cea mai bună actriță”,  făcând referire la partea din spate a rochiei sale fără bretele, semnată de Louis Vuitton.„Rochia mea este ruptă; cred că s-a întâmplat în timpul piesei «I’m just Ken»”, a spus ea publicului, referindu-se la interpretarea lui Ryan Gosling a hitului său „Barbie”, care avusese loc mai devreme în timpul evenimentului.

În centrul atenției s-a aflat John Cena, faimosul luptător de wrestling și actor,  care aintrat pe scenă purtând doar un plic care acoperea zona intimă, pe care era scris numele producției câștigătoare: „Poor Things”. Pentru a evita orice incidente nedorite, Cena a fost rapid echipat cu un costum elegant din mătase, pentru a nu dezvălui prea mult din formele sale în fața publicului adunat în sala Teatrului Dolby
